Manual Therapy

Our skilled physiotherapists use a range of manual therapy techniques to treat your pain. The term manual therapy includes physical techniques such as joint mobilisations, manipulations and soft tissue massage. These techniques aim to reduce pain, decrease stiffness and therefore restore good function.

Joint mobilisations involve applying pressure to the stiff and/or painful joint in order to move the joint. The main joint mobilisation techniques we use are the Maitland and Mulligan techniques. Manipulations are designed to relieve stiffness through a controlled thrusting technique. Therapeutic massage can involve gliding and friction techniques, trigger point therapy where sustained pressure is applied onto the muscle or myofascial techniques. These massage techniques stretch and relax the tight muscles and help gain pain free movement.
